Early reports from New York hunters through Dec. 3, show that hunters reported taking approximately 18 percent more deer in the Northern Zone and 14 percent more deer in the Southern Zone compared to the same period in 2016.
Hunters harvested 318 bears, raising the three-day total to 1,628 – about a 30-percent decrease compared to 2016. Extensive rain on the season’s opening day blamed for decline.
According to Game Commission biologist, it’s the biggest bear that he knows of that was taken in the archery hunt.

An interesting experience in southwestern Wisconsin, to be sure, but not one that can top the incident a friend had while turkey hunting up north.
