DEC fisheries biologist report that the mild winter sent spawning rainbow trout into the Finger Lakes tributaries earlier than normal, and many fish had returned to the lake ahead of the April 1 trout opener.

Anglers were getting out on some of the rivers that are open to fishing now, and action will really pick up when trout season – and the rest of the waters – open April 1.
