Lakes across eastern South Dakota are opening rapidly, but it’s been too cold and windy to allow fishermen to hit them. Everyone’s attention and focus right now is on the Missouri River. But even there,

Ice fishing season is pretty much over in eastern South Dakota now, and most everyone is thinking about open water. This is especially the case with the Missouri River producing so many walleyes of late.

Ice fishing continues in a large portion of the area, but there are definite signs of the season coming to an end in some locations. Quite a few fish have been caught this past week,

Mother Nature is still holding onto winter, so the ice fishing season continues. Fish are being caught, but success varies with each passing day.


As the calendar turned to March, the warmer weather has helped with the bite across the area, with many anglers using plastics lately.
