The bite for most species has been mostly good at fisheries across the state.

And despite environment and social changes, a 10-pounder is not that rare anymore.

This is a great time to fish the shallows of inland lakes with fly rods and poppers.

Most anglers target yellow perch and smallmouth bass when they head to Alpena County’s Long Lake, but anglers also catch good numbers of walleyes, panfish, northern pike, and even some healthy bullheads.

The bass bite has been hot across a good part of the state. And the walleye bite remains solid on Lake Erie.
