Southern Illinois bass warming up, north cools.

The ice-fishing season has started and reports from most areas indicated that there should be increased fishing activity this weekend.

Fishing has been surprisingly good, especially river fishing for walleyes.

Smallmouth bite is a highlight.

Frigid temps have made for some good, solid ice-making, with ice readings ranging from very thin to upwards of 4 to 6 inches in the Northern Basin of the lake.

On Lake Michigan, lake trout jiggers and trollers are catching fish when the weather allows them to get out.

A brief cold snap in mid-November slowed Lake Erie walleye, steelhead, and perch fishing, but things are firing back up now.

Ice fishing before Thanksgiving – it’s something that doesn’t occur too often around here, but it has this year. Fish are being caught, but caution is still being recommended, especially with the recent warm snap.

According to angler reports it has been a great fall for steelhead fishing on the Lake Erie tributaries, with lots of larger fish.
