Sometimes overlooked, New York’s Doodletown WMA worth a look

Every once in a while there’s a good hunting area that may be overlooked by sportsmen and women. That may happen for a number of reasons, but when you discover such a parcel it’s possible to enjoy some quality hunting in an area that doesn’t see as much pressure as others in the area.
That may be the case with the Doodletown Wildlife Management Area in Columbia County.

Pennsylvania’s Matt Morrett inducted into NWTF Calling Hall of Fame

Matt Morrett, who parlayed his turkey-calling talent and affable personality into a career in the outdoor industry, was honored in February with induction into the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Grand National Calling Championships Hall of Fame.
“I can’t tell you how big of an honor this is,” said the Linglestown, Pa., resident. “It’s the biggest honor of my life, for a turkey caller from central Pennsylvania to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

Too, watching the hunt through their eyes may even re-energize your passion for spring gobbler hunting.

In the interest of helping accelerate the learning curve for hunters and anglers reading this, and maybe helping renew their joy in our sports, here are a few tips.

Pennsylvania’s Matt Van Cise enhances his turkey-calling legend status

Van Cise yelped, clucked and purred to a blowout victory, finishing 25 points (777.5-752.5) ahead of runner-up J.R. Lanham, of Missouri, a margin virtually unheard of in competitive calling.
Past champions Dave Owens, of Georgia, and Jesse Martin, of Kentucky, were third and fourth, respectively.
