Teams from Pekin High School take top two at 12th annual Bob Kerans Scholastic Muskie Tournament in Illinois

Students from several schools across Illinois participated in the 12th annual Bob Kerans Scholastic Muskie Tournament, held May 31 on Johnson Lake at Banner Marsh in Fulton County.
Named after the late Bob Kerans, a lifelong Illinois educator and muskie angler, the tournament does not charge an entry fee and is designed to encourage youth interest in the outdoors and fishing – specifically muskie fishing.

Illinois state parks celebrated with limited-edition poster series

In honor of 100 years of conservation in the state, the Illinois Conservation Foundation has released a series of vintage-style posters and sticker packs celebrating 12 of the state’s most iconic parks and historic sites.
Proceeds from poster and sticker sales will support Illinois state parks through the ICF.

New York’s Minnewaska State Park gains 291 acres

Minnewaska State Park Preserve, in Ulster County, has expanded by 291 acres, helping conserve an important section in the northern Shawangunk Mountains in the Hudson Valley.
Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office said the protection of these lands as part of the New York State Park system provides an opportunity to safeguard natural resources and represents a valuable addition for accessibility and future recreational improvements.

New York DEC drafts Wildlife Action Plan; public invited to comment

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced it is seeking public input on the draft revised State Wildlife Action Plan for 2025-35.
In 2024, DEC sought review and input on draft species status assessments and the list of Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). Relevant data and other feedback informed the revised SGCN list and were incorporated into the species status assessments now available for final review.
