One of the biggest Mille Lacs ice fishing stories of the 2000-2001 winter has been the nice size of perch in the angler catch. Reports from around the lake following several weeks of ice fishing were that plenty of perch were good-sized often between 10 and 12 inches, with larger big bellied females not uncommon.

Madison DNR secretary Darrell Bazzell believes that once the public knows the facts, Rep. John Gard’s proposal to split the DNR will fall on its face.
