Little Falls, Minn. If you’ll need a certificate showing you’ve completed hunter safety training before you hunt this fall, now is the time to sign up for classes, according to the Minnesota DNR.

In Minnesota, hunters born after Dec. 31, 1979 must take a DNR safety training course and receive a certificate of completion before purchasing a license for big or small game. Altura, Minn. Whitewater State Park, located in southeastern Minnesota, will host a workshop Aug. 4 for youth who want to learn about fishing but have little or no experience. The workshop is presented by MinnAqua, the DNR’s aquatic education program.

“Fishing, Caring, Sharing,” is a three-hour workshop and participants should bring worms, and/or corn. Other equipment will be provided and parents are encouraged to join their children. Stop in or call the visitor center at (507) 932-3007 during weekday business hours to make reservations. The workshop is free, but state park vehicle permits are required.
