For the April 1 trout opener, the Battenkill, Mettawee and Kayderosseras rivers are likely worth a look.

Trout waters set to be stocked ahead of the April 1 opener are: Dutchess County: Tenmile River, Webatuck Creek, Swamp River, Roeliff Jansen Kill, Crum Elbow Creek, Sawkill, Fishkill Creek, Sprout Creek, Wappingers Creek. Putnam County: Diverting Reservoir, West Branch Reservoir, East Branch Croton River, West Branch Croton River, Croton Falls Reservoir. Westchester County: Kensico
