Sitting in my boat recently, I considered how advances in angling technology have changed the way I fish, just within the past several years. There have been three particularly noteworthy advances that have made fishing easier, more fun, and more effective.

In my last column, I kicked around potential problems and opportunities presented by school fishing teams with Jason Bahr, coach of the Brainerd Warrior Fishing Team from Brainerd. This week, Jason and I delve into how these organizations can reach their full potential in helping to ensure a great future for fishing.

During my lifetime in the fishing industry, I’ve seen several efforts to increase youth participation in sport angling. Some have shown promise, but fallen by the wayside; others have failed for financial reasons or organizational problems.
