They are more than mere well-behaved dogs. They are crime solvers, finders of the lost and injured, and ambassadors of good will for the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
They are the division’s “canine officers” – dogs specially trained for specific tasks that make the state’s outdoors safer, according to Chris Gilkey, who oversees the division’s canine academy. Gilkey helped start the division’s canine program in 2018 in conjunction with that of the state parks system, he said.
