Howard Tanner, the acclaimed fisheries biologist and conservation leader whose vision helped transform the Great Lakes and created one of Michigan’s most important recreational fisheries, is being remembered for a legacy that continues to shape the region more than a half-century after his groundbreaking work began.
Tanner, a Michigan State University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources alumnus, died Aug. 16 at the age of 102.
