According to the Minnesota DNR, the state moose population has remained stable from 2025; meanwhile, three tribal bands are preparing for their annual moose take this fall.
The Fond du Lac, Bois Forte, and Grand Portage bands have issued permits for successful applicants for tribal moose take in 2026. Their seasons will open on Sept. 15 and run through Dec. 31. Seasons may end sooner than Dec. 31 if their limit of moose is reached for each band – 15 each for Bois Forte and Grand Portage, and 30 for Fond du Lac.
