New pheasant stocking plan in New York is taking shape

A few years ago, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation made some improvements to its pheasant stocking program in an effort to attract more new hunters to the sport and retain existing ones.
Those changes included increasing the number of adult pheasants released for hunting each fall from 30,000 to nearly 50,000 birds, and increasing the number of stocking dates, including late season releases in January. Public response to those changes has overall been positive, DEC officials said, and now the agency is looking at the next step.
