“There’s pike all around that shore over there. There’s weeds over there but the water is high and you can’t see them right now. But there’s thousands of pike over there.”
As his father sets up the boat, 7-year-old Wyatt Ellsworth tells me about all the fish he has caught in this lake. I normally wouldn’t trust a kid to tell me where the fish are, but it just so happens that I have caught a lot of pike on that shoreline – mostly hammer handles, but a few over 24 inches. And when it comes to fishing, Wyatt knows a thing or two.
