Ohio Insider: Start of stocking elicits questions from public on how saugers will coexist with Lake Erie’s walleyes
The Lake Erie sauger population has been in the news recently and it certainly is a time of optimism on the big lake.
The ODNR Division of Wildlife in late May stocked the Maumee and Sandusky rivers with a total of nearly 130,000 fingerling saugers as part of a larger plan to invigorate the species in Lake Erie. The obvious question then is will the sauger compete with the lake’s robust walleye population for vital resources?
