Bobwhites and the challenges they face to reproduce in Illinois

As we reach the season when reproductive efforts of bobwhite quail hits prime time and nesting activities peak, let’s outline the factors responsible for the steep, long-term decline in numbers of this upland bird observed since the early 1970s in Illinois.
A short-lived species with high reproductive potential, bobwhite numbers fluctuate substantially year after year.
