Outfoxing the Fox: Memories from an early season trapline

Despite surgery a few seasons ago, and with a bit of discomfort, the author pressed on with his early season canine trapping plans and ended up pleased with the results. (Photo by Shutterstock)

The following story took place three seasons ago during the trapping season of 2022-23. I had just had gall bladder surgery with severe complications. I had plans to trap close to the road.
While I underwent having several minor surgeries following the gall bladder removal, I was limited to trapping from the vehicle. What better way to do that than trapping canines in western New York on a small trapline that consisted mostly of private farms with a few close to the road locations on public land.
