Illinois waterfowlers got their first taste of a new duck season earlier this month with the brief teal season that ran Sept. 6-14.
Reports from hunters indicate there were plenty of opportunities to shoot blue-winged teal along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, with a few green-winged teal also present the first two weeks of the month. Evidence from waterfowl watchers, however, were pointing to a slow start for teal.
