Minnesota Mixed Bag: George’s Minnesota Muskie Expo begins Friday

Falcon Heights, Minn. — George’s Minnesota Muskie Expo, held this year in conjunction with the Minnesota Anglers Boat Show, comes to the Warner Coliseum at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, March 7-9.

The expo offers a chance to see the latest in fishing gear, plan a muskie-fishing trip, take in a seminar offered by a host of muskie-fishing experts, and let the kids visit fish the live trout pond and visit George’s Tackle Shop.

Show hours are 1-7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7; 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. Daily admission for adults is $10 (a three-day pass is $17) and is free for youth age 12 and under. Visit mn-muskieexpo.com for more information.

Shakopee, Minn. — The Minnesota Deer and Turkey Classic is set for a three-day run at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, March 14-16.

Don’t miss your chance to meet some of this year’s headliners, including Melissa Bachman, Daniel Schmidt, and Don and Kandi Kisky. Bring your antlers along to be scored by Minnesota Official Measurers, and check out the trophies of other hunters. Sit down for a seminar featuring guide Brian “Bro” Brosdahl, Minnesota Tracking Dogs, turkey expert Darrell Madden, and many others. And let your kids wander the Wild Trails Kids Zone, featuring an archery range, trout pond, and more.

Show hours are 1-8 p.m. on Friday, March 14; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for youth ages 10 to 15, and free for kids age 9 and younger. There’s also a military discount available, and senior discount day is Friday, when those age 65 and older are admitted for $10. Northwest Sportshow Set for March 13-16 at Minneapolis Convention Center

Minneapolis — The Northwest Sportshow returns to the Minneapolis Convention Center for a four-day run, March 13-16. Take the opportunity to see the latest in fishing gear, watercraft, RVs, apparel, and much more.

Show features this year include seminars from angling pros such as Jason Mitchell, Toby Kvalevog, Kevin Cochran, and others; a walleye fish fry on Friday, March 14; a 60,000-square-foot RV area; a fishing demonstration tank; a live trout pond; and much more.

Sportshow hours are 1-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 13; noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 14; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 15; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. Minnesota Sporting Collectibles Show Slated for April 6

Medina, Minn. — The 27th annual Minnesota Sporting Collectibles Show comes to the Medina Entertainment Center on Sunday, April 6, from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will feature everything from fishing lures to duck decoys to hunting equipment, cabin decor, sporting art, game calls, spearing decoys, traps, books and magazines, and much more. Free appraisals of your sporting collectibles is available.

Whitetails Unlimited Grants More Than $88,000 in Minnesota

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. — Last fiscal year, Whitetails Unlimited granted $88,979 to various mission-related projects in the state of Minnesota. This is due in large part to the 30 chapters WTU has located across the state. The chapters range in location from Spring Grove in the southeast corner to Warroad on the south side of Lake of the Woods and everywhere in between. This accomplishment could not be done without the help of the many volunteers that donate their time toward the mission of Whitetails Unlimited.

The majority of the grants awarded in Minnesota fall within WTU’s Staying on Target program, which helps to advance shooting sports. WTU works closely with various shooting sport programs such as National Archery in the Schools, the Scholastic Clay Target Program, Scholastic 3-D Archery, and the USA Clay Target League. Each program continues to prove that youth and adults who take up shooting sports often progress to become hunters.
