Steve Carney: Here’s how to catch crappies in August

Crappies, like other fish in Minnesota lakes, have a tendency to suspend over deep water during August. It can be a challenge to find them, but when you do, there are some great ways to catch them, including with glide baits and jigging spoons. (Photo by Steve Carney)

August can be a cruel month for crappie anglers, as we all know, but there are still opportunities out there if you’re creative and willing to try new methods.
I’ve been finding crappies recently that have all been suspended in deep water; 28 feet of water has been the norm almost everywhere I’ve fished, with the fish about 15 feet down.
