Southern Illinois man jailed in Florida after ‘catching too many bass’

Gene Neal Pipher, 77, was booked in early March at the Marion County (Florida) Jail for failure to appear in court on Feb. 21 to answer to a citation from late January. That citation was based on the fact that he caught too many black bass.

Pipher, a grandfather who lives in Smithton, a small town that sits on the edge of suburban Belleville, just 25 miles east of St. Louis, was fishing Jan. 25 at Sellers Lake, an 840-acre body of water in central Florida’s Marion and Lake counties.
