I never gave skipjack herring a second thought – an overrated sardine, I thought – until I saw firsthand. The day started like any other day. Minnows jumping in the air changed it up some. I rifled a cast to parlay the unknown predator. My excitement cannonballed a 3⁄8-ounce sinker Carolina rigged to a swimbait, complete with a bird’s nest.
