Big Panfish Initiative and crappie research continuing across New York

Panfish serve as more than a target for anglers. They are a vital part of the food column, and a boom or bust in their populations can have a big impact on a water body’s health. Recent data have indicated their size has been declining in parts of New York, which may stem from over-harvesting.
