Starting in 2027, when a new two-year regulation cycle begins for managing Michigan’s black bears, the DNR is proposing to increase the bear harvest in the UP to help stabilize that increasing population.
The agency wants to accomplish that by actually reducing the number of hunting licenses available in some cases.
