Classified as songbirds in New York, interest remains for a state dove hunting season

New York State is in the process of overhauling its pheasant propagation and stocking program in an effort to attract more new hunters and reverse declining participation in small game hunting, but George Gedney think he has a better idea.
Gedney, who lives in Queensbury (Warren County) and has been an avid game bird hunter and dog handler for most of his life, likes the idea of more pheasants to hunt, but he thinks New York is missing a big opportunity to promote a bird that already has booming wild populations across the state – the mourning dove.
