Brandon Road carp project in Illinois paused at crucial time

A federal stop-work order on the Brandon Road Interbasin Project has drawn sharp criticism from Illinois officials and renewed concerns among anglers, conservationists and fisheries managers who view the project as the best way to keep invasive carp out of Lake Michigan.
According to DNR, state officials first learned of the order from contractors already working at the site. The department said repeated attempts to contact federal officials were unsuccessful until after work had already been suspended.
