Statewide, the running tally of fish-kill events jumped 30% in a week earlier this month as water temperatures climbed into the 80s, killing thousands of fish across Minnesota.

Former Ohio Wildlife Council member Tom Vorisek received a Red Oak Leaf Award in recognition of his years of service to the council and to the state’s conservation efforts.
The Ohio native expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“It’s nice anytime you get an award,” Vorisek said. “It’s good to know my efforts of the last eight years on behalf of sportsmen and women were appreciated. It’s validation that you can make a difference.”

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission did UP deer hunters a major favor at their meeting in May when they voted to maintain a two-buck bag limit in the region. Another positive they approved for UP deer hunters that is long overdue is, starting this year, hunters with senior deer licenses will be able to hunt with crossbows during the late (December) archery season.
But the NRC made a major mistake regarding another UP deer season. They unnecessarily shortened the traditional 10-day muzzleloader season to just three days.
