Ice Age history comes to life at Wisconsin’s Chippewa Moraine State Recreation Area

Imagine nearly 5,000 acres of undeveloped forest dotted with small lakes, plenty of hunting and trapping opportunities, remote camping sites, and miles of hiking trails.
Sound too good to be true? It might, but such a place does exist in rural Chippewa County. The Chippewa Moraine State Recreation Area is part of the Wisconsin state park system and sits seven miles east of New Auburn on Hwy. M. Chippewa County Forest acreage is interspersed with the recreation area, adding to the hunting and trapping opportunities.
