Free fishing begins this week with Minnesota’s new licensing system going live next Tuesday

Minnesota residents can fish without a license June 2-8 as the DNR transitions from its legacy licensing system to the modernized Electronic Licensing System (ELS).
After more than three years of work, the first phase of the modernized ELS goes live next Tuesday, June 9 at 12 a.m. Once launched, residents can purchase the state’s fishing and hunting licenses through the new system. The existing legacy system began transitioning this past Monday at 11:59 p.m.
