Some dogs love the water, others don’t. The ones that don’t often belong to a breed that is not known for doing much duck work in the fall, but also can be any dog with a healthy fear of water.
This is generally the result of a poor water introduction, which comes in a few common forms. Swimming a puppy too early, pushing a young dog into the water (forcing them to swim), or swimming a dog for the first time in frigid water can all set the stage for a life of frustration at the lake’s edge.
