Minnesota DNR Enforcement division faces $1.5 million deficit

DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen told lawmakers the bill omits $1.5 million requested in the governor’s budget to reimburse the agency’s Enforcement Division for fiscal year 2026 costs.

Senate lawmakers discussed an environment supplemental budget bill on April 21 that extends project deadlines, provides emergency aid and funds studies, but leaves unresolved how to reimburse the DNR for public safety work.
The bill, SF4214, is authored by Foung Hawj, DFL-St. Paul, and was presented in the Senate Finance Committee.
