An 80-mile stretch of railroad between Thief River Falls and the Canadian border has some residents worried after finding corn and dead deer along the tracks.
A train carrying grain through the area had a significant corn spill in January. Carlstad Area Wildlife Manager Jason Wollin said it isn’t uncommon to find loose grain that falls out of train cars, but news reports of 100-plus dead deer near the track were inaccurate.

If you looked up the word trailblazer in the dictionary, Vicki Mountz’s picture and bio very well might be right next to the definition. She is the epitome of an outdoor trailblazer in Ohio.
Mountz, an Akron native, graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in criminal justice.
“I didn’t think I wanted to be a city cop or something,” she said. “I really didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to do. So, I contacted someone in natural resources (in Ohio).”
