Just how good is your hunting dog’s nose?

“That dog has a really good nose.”
That statement, or some variation of it, has been uttered countless times. But what does it really mean? Well, for most of us, it just means that we really like our hunting dogs, and that they are good at their jobs. It really doesn’t mean that they have much better noses than do most other dogs, because they don’t.
