Oak Duke: Redemption in the deer woods

A missed buck late in the 2024 deer season haunted the author, making the above success this past season all the more redeeming. (Photo by Oak Duke)

On the final day of the 2024 firearms deer season I cleanly blew a shot at a dandy buck at about 100 yards through big oaks. Upon examination, not a speck of blood, not a hair on the snow. Of course, there had been the obligatory wait until the buck stepped into a clear shooting lane.
