Southeast Minnesota CWD prevalence rates increase

As of Monday, Jan. 12, there were 121 positive cases found in the state since July 1, 2025 – an increase from 96 positives from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. (Stock photo)

Around this time last year, the DNR announced that deer permit areas 646, 647, and 648 in southeastern Minnesota had entered a new phase of infection – “endemic,” according to its chronic wasting disease response plan.
That meant the disease was prevalent in about 5% or more of the deer herd in those DPAs.
