In the fall of 1999, the Lake Erie Water Snake, a unique sub-species of the very common Northern water snake, was placed on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Endangered Species Act (ESA) list as “Threatened” and as “Endangered” in Ohio and Ontario.
