Committee suggests hike in spring turkey ‘tag’ numbers in Wisconsin

More turkey hunting permits will be available for this coming spring hunting season in Wisconsin based on recent recommendations of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Turkey Advisory Committee.
The committee meets each December to make final recommendations on the number of permits to make available the following spring.

Wisconsin Conservation Congress group passes hound/wolf resolution

The possibility of using trailing hounds to move wolves away from farms and other problem areas in Wisconsin cleared its first hurdle when the Conservation Congress wolf study committee passed Corky Meyer’s resolution with just one dissenting vote.
Meyer, who passed away earlier this year, had been a strong conservation advocate for decades.

Oconto County balsams decorate Madison for Christmas

He didn’t know it at the time, but a roofing project 40 years ago pointed Dave Vander Velden in a totally new direction – owning Christmas tree farms in Wisconsin’s Door and Oconto counties – that has paid off over the years and the fruits of his labor are on display in Madison.
The Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association selected two balsam firs from Vander Velden’s tree farm near Gillett to be displayed in Madison in December.
