Nature Smart: Wild turkeys and the ‘false’ breeding season

The casual observer of nature may not notice some strange things going on in the natural world during late fall/early winter.
I scatter some whole and cracked corn occasionally on the ground to feed a local flock of Eastern wild turkeys. A small group of adult toms stops by every couple of days and a slightly larger group of females also visits.

Training exercise continues search for New York hunter who disappeared in 2015

Ten years ago this past November, 82-year-old Rensselaer County resident Tom Messick Sr. ventured into the woods of northern Warren County, N.Y., to hunt for deer with friends and family.
