Steve Carney: November is a time for river duck hunts and walleyes

Carney says he has success this time of year by using a canoe or other shallow-running boat to jump-shoot ducks on river systems. Just be aware that ducks typically can be located around bends in rivers. Straight runs usually don’t yield many birds, and those there are on high alert. (Photo courtesy of Steve Carney)

The cold weather has finally arrived in Minnesota, but it seems the migrant ducks haven’t headed south. I recently received two reports from some Canadian friends who said there are a lot of ducks still lingering in the fields there, which means within a couple of weeks something should happen for us here.
