New York’s Gary Bush seeks the challenge of still-hunting, and targeting Adirondack bucks

Gary Bush shares the spirit of the mountain men: the age old urge to wander and explore new areas. He also shares their skill in hunting, especially deer. A visit to his home in Verona where the garage is overflowing with deer mounts and antlers confirms this.

Michigan biologists expect a deer season similar to last year’s solid hunt

Michigan deer hunters took an estimated 179,829 whitetails during the firearms deer season in 2024, up 3.7% over 2023 (177,292). That total included an estimated 115,521 bucks and 64,308 antlerless deer.
Biologists believe Michigan hunters will see similar results during the Nov. 15-30, 2025 firearms season. Hunters should be aware of important regulations or recent changes in each region.

A quick chat with Deer and Deer Hunting’s Daniel Schmidt

Most north-country deer hunters have read Deer and Deer Hunting magazine. The publication is almost as ubiquitous as Winchester’s Model 94 – and may have even killed as many whitetails as has the old .30-30.
Way back in 1973, founders Al Hofacker and Jack Brauer incorporated in Wisconsin as Stump Sitters, at first a loosely united group interested in talking about deer and deer hunting. When the first Stump Sitter newsletter appeared in 1977 carrying the Deer and Deer Hunting (DDH) title, it became the first white-tailed deer-specific magazine in the country.
