At the halfway point of 2025, DNR and partner agencies had removed about 46 million pounds of invasive carp from the Illinois River.
That large number is the total haul that came from two removal projects on the river this year. It suggests a couple of things: carp populations are growing, and those working to capture them are getting better at the job.
