Another youth big game hunting weekend is about to take place in New York, as Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 11-13, marks the annual hunt for junior hunters ages 12-15.
During what is labeled a “firearms” hunt, junior hunters may use a rifle, shotgun, or muzzleloading firearm under the supervision of an experienced adult mentor with a NYS hunting license. They and their mentors must follow the state’s hunter orange/pink laws and cannot hunt from treestands.
