Steve Carney: Considerations for early duck hunting in Minnesota

Of late, Carney has seen decent numbers of ducks in his area as the regular season opener nears. Ducks in Minnesota in most places will find good rice crops this year, and maybe even some favored sheetwater areas. I’m optimistic about Minnesota’s upcoming waterfowl opener, Sept. 27. The duck situation, numbers-wise, seems similar to last season, which was, in my opinion, a mediocre season at best. Most noticeable was the lack of wood ducks and teal. 
Here are my thoughts as we head into the first week of the duck season.
