Bill Pike, New York’s Women’s Range Day organizer, stepping back at 85

Erica Scicutella, of Glens Falls, prepares to try out an AR-15 centerfire rifle, one of five shooting disciplines at the Hudson Falls Fish & Game Club’s annual Women’s Range Day.

For nearly two decades, Bill Pike, of Hartford, in Washington County, N.Y., has overseen an annual women’s-only shooting sports program that sees 35-40 women participate each year and learn about firearms and archery.
Now, at age 85, the 2023 New York Outdoor News Person of the Year is ready to pass the torch.
“I’m justing going to step back a little bit,” Pike said. “As long as I’m able, I will help out. I’m 85-years-old and it’s time to slow down a little bit.”
