In a strange development, a mosquito-transmitted virus that is deadly to horses has been confirmed in a wild turkey in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Keith George, coordinator of the Mosquito-borne Disease Control Program for the Luzerne Conservation District, said a wild turkey in the county was confirmed to have Eastern equine encephalitis late last year. News of the confirmation was released earlier this month to ensure agency protocols were followed, he said.
