My first steelhead fishing trip was one to remember. Conneaut Creek ran high and turbidity clouded the flow. I could not see my feet. We had the place to ourselves, not another angler in sight. It was a tough day for fly-fishing.
Vince LaConte guided me. A Division of Wildlife fisheries biologist at the time, I credit him, Phil Hillman, among others, with putting Ohio on the steelhead map. At the end of the day, I thought the few fish we caught were the only ones there.
