Jan. 20 is a Free Park Day at Minnesota state parks, recreation areas

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas on Monday, Jan. 20.
This Free Park Day is one of four days each year on which the DNR waives the requirement for a vehicle permit at state parks and recreation areas. There is one fee-free day for each season of the year, giving Minnesotans an opportunity to experience state parks and recreation areas at different times of the year.

Simple approach lands angler the new record Ohio white crappie

Teresa Croy, of Ottawa, Ohio, spent the early part of the day on Nov. 2, 2024, throwing all manner of plastics in attempt to catch a fish at the Glandorf Rod and Gun Club in Putnam County.
Any fish would do, she said, but she wasn’t having much luck.
“We had been fishing for crappies for probably and hour or so using plastic lures and we weren’t getting any bites at all,” Croy said.

Ice was nice in parts of Pennsylvania… at least for a few days

Pennsylvania ice anglers who didn’t get a chance to use their equipment for the last two winters received an early Christmas present this season when waters in the central and northcentral regions of the state locked up for several days around the big holiday.
In particular, ice fishing was  good to excellent in midsize lakes and ponds in the core counties of Snyder, Mifflin and Juniata, as well in the Northern Tier counties of Tioga and Potter, at the least.

For Ed Hatten of Hastings, N.Y., he would be quick to agree with the phrase “knowledge is power.”
Hatten put that knowledge to use on Nov. 24, 2024, when he reeled in a 12.30-pound walleye to win both the Walleye Fall Brawl (held Oct. 19-Dec. 8) and the Walleye Slam (held Oct. 18-Dec. 1) to net some $315,000 in prizes from Ohio’s two huge fall derbies on Lake Erie.
