New York’s ice fishing season gets off to an early start compared to last year

Anglers took advantage of some early ice on Brant Lake, in Warren County, N.Y., in the Adirondacks over the holidays following a cold snap that featured sub-zero temperatures buttoning up a few lakes across the entire state. Ray Connors took advantage of a day off from work Dec. 27 to plant some tip-ups on Brant Lake in northern Warren County, N.Y. With the ice only about 4 inches thick, and weak spots evident around bubblers a few dozen yards away, he didn’t stray far from shore. But he managed to land a few yellow perch on a bluebird day.
“This was the earliest we’ve been on Brant (Lake) in years,” Connors, of East Greenbush, said.
